My Yak shaving sessions don't yield as much wool

I’ve always been into creating random tools to make what I do easier.

It didn’t turn out great every time. Sometimes, the process of creating was such a pain that I would need to do the “small thing” 100 times over to recoup the invested time.

Funny enough, I don’t regret any of my “yak shaving” detours. I learned a lot.

Now with AI, I feel like I can “summon” whatever tool or automation I can dream of. But at the same time, I feel like I don’t learn as much. At least the type of learning I get from these are different.

Don’t get me wrong, I still get into the nitty-gritty implementation details, sometimes. Still gotta understand what is it doing.

However, if you told me to write one from scratch, using just my head, I couldn’t do it as fast, when in other times, I would have the whole codebase in my head.

Times are changing; it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make, but I wonder how it will affect everyone in the long term.
